Moving a state revenue service to the cloud

In 2018, a state internal revenue service was preparing to move its systems to the cloud. We designed the architecture for that transition and managed the deployment through to completion.

Why the move needed an architecture

A revenue service depends on its systems to assess, collect and account for the state’s revenue, so moving them cannot interrupt the services taxpayers rely on. Before any migration, the service needed a clear design for the environment its systems would move to and a path for getting there.

Designing the cloud environment

We developed the architecture for the transition. It set out how the service’s applications would be hosted in the cloud, how access to them would be controlled and secured, and how the move from its existing environment would be sequenced.

Managing the deployment to completion

We then managed the deployment itself, carrying the project from the approved design through to a completed move, so the service had one team accountable for both the plan and its delivery.
